Pierfrancesco Gaggi is currently Secretary General of the Italian Banking, Insurance and Finance Federation (FeBAF) (since October 2022), in addition to being also the Deputy General Manager for Payments Systems and Innovation at the Italian Banking Association (ABI) (since November 2022).
After an initial experience in BNL (now BNL BNPParibas), in 1985 he joined the ABI Research Department and In 1991 he moved to the Payment Systems Department where, in the 1990s, he successfully supervised the launch of the Italian payment scheme BANCOMAT/PagoBANCOMAT (now managed by BANCOMAT SpA) and the payment initiation scheme CBI.
In 1997, after becoming the Head of the Payments Systems Department and in 2009 of the Market Infrastructures Division, he successfully supervised ABI’s activity in areas such as securities clearing and settlement, physical and IT Security and Bank Technology.
After 8 years as President of the Payment Systems Committee of the European Banking Federation (EBF) and member of the European Payments Council, in 2011 he was appointed Director of International Relations of ABI, maintaining at the same time the role of President of the ABI Lab Consortium – the Research and Innovation Center for banks promoted by ABI – which also manages the CERTFin (Computer Emergency Response Team) operations of the Italian financial sector, of which he is Co-President. He also holds the role of President of the Association of Italian shareholder banks of SWIFT.
Since 2011, he has been a member of the Executive Committee of the European Banking Federation (EBF) and from the same year to June 2022 a member of the Board of the European Monetary Market Institute (EMMI), the body that administers the EURIBOR benchmark.
